Impression management is the process through which people try to influence the impressions other people formed of them. It is a goal directed attempt to influence the perceptions of others about a person, object or event by regulating or controlling information in social interaction in conscious or unconscious states.
“Impression management theory states that when any individual appears in the presence of others, the individual will usually establish and maintain an impression that they want to convey in their best interest to the others.” (Goffman, 1959)
The goal of the theory is for one to present themselves the ways in which they would like to be thought of by the individual or group they are interacting with. People strived to create an impression of capability, consistency, morality, and attractiveness because these impressions can enhance their ability to influence others toward meeting their needs or goals. In most instances, impression management is used towards the peers to make the individual to appear in better light, and to improve the perceived image. In a more simple explanation, the individual will adopt different roles according to the situations.
Often when an individual are trying to control impression of himself, as opposed to other people or entities, the activity is called self-presentation. Self-presentation, on the other hand, is often tied with the presentation of oneself through the use of verbal communication and the physical appearance.
In the research by Shrauger and Schoeneman (1979) research, they found out that people do not see themselves as others saw them, but instead saw themselves as they though others saw them.
today's the grand opening of Central at Vivo City. I went to disturb the pple there. a bit of messy for for the bar side. the rest seems quite ok.
things are out of reach. the glasses put too far away from the ice machine. Toaster not with toast preparing section. Plates that are not used often were put on the bar counter limiting spaces. the bottles were also out of position.
New food and drinks on the menu. looks interesting. (may go try some other time bah) though of having lunch there but i think forget it. Services don seem good still. Food were out but no one serves it. everyone was like playing taichi (push here push there). haizzzz..... sad....
went hm around 4 ++ bah. have dinner with mom before going out again to meet OCK n PCK. (Phua Chun Kang??? haha!!! ) .
PCK change a bit. he grew fatter haha. he is coming out of the Police Force n may be starting F&B with some frens.
OCK still studying NUS. Graduating 2008. Now supplying some products to shops.
